Profile

Chikumbutso Herbert Manthalu is an Associate Professor of Education and the head of the Higher Education and Professional Development Department. He holds a doctorate in Philosophy of Education from Stellenbosch University (South Africa), a Master’s degree in Applied Ethics from Linkoping University (Sweden), a University Certificate in Education from Mzuzu University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Malawi (Malawi). His most recent scholarly contributions include Education, communication and democracy in Africa (Routledge, 2022, with Victor Chikaipa and Anthony Mavuto Gunde); Cosmopolitan education and inclusion: Human engagement and the self (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020, with Yusef Waghid, Judith Terblanche, Faiq Waghid, Zayd Waghid); Education for decoloniality and decolonisation in Africa (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019 with Yusef Waghid); and From the ideal to non-ideal: Towards decolonized higher education in Africa (In Felix Maringe (ed.), Colonization and epistemic injustice in higher education: Precursors to decolonization, Routledge, 2023). He is also an editorial board member and a reviewer for multiple international peer-reviewed journals.
